Our library contains marriage records, genealogies, biographies and histories as well as journals and publications of regional,
national and international scope. The Society also holds over 1800 microfilms called the Drouin Films that cover the entire
Province of Quebec, along with microfilms from predominantly French-Canadian towns in Ontario; Louisiana parish records;
Michigan, Massachusetts, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Wisconsin records. These records contain the actual birth, marriage and
death records as they were written, and span the beginning of Canada in early 1600 through 1935. We also have on microfilm
all B-M-D in Massachusetts between 1842 and 1908; B-M-D records of Vermont up to 1941; R.I. deaths 1853-1945, births 1852-1898
and marriages 1853-1899 and New Hampshire B-M-D from 1640 to 1900.

The society collects artifacts and memorabilia relative to the history of East Providence and the two towns of which it once
was, Seekonk and Rehoboth. The repository of the collection is the Hunt House, which is a restored 18th-century five-bay
Georgian historic house museum. The house is furnished in the period and features the Philip Walker bedroom, with furnishings
from the second oldest house in the state, the Philip Walker House in East Providence.
We have books by historians Bliss, Usher, Bowen and Erhardt of our city's history back to 1643. Other collections are a
very large Rumford Chemical Works selection of historic letters, incorporation papers, law suits, trademarks and licensing
certificates, advertising and product containers, cookbooks, property maps, etc. Washburn Wire Company is represented by
over 1000 engineering drawings of machinery with a sample of every item manufactured. We have collections on our schools,
churches, historic buildings, amusement parks, E.P. District Nurses, women's clubs and Fuller Library. Collections also
include slides, photographs and maps.

The Newport Historical Society's Collections include a library collection of 9000 volumes, 1,500 shelf ft. of manuscript
material and 250,000 photographs. These materials are used by researchers seeking information on the history of Newport
County and southern New England. Special Collections include the second largest genealogical collection in Rhode Island
containing letters, diaries, and published genealogies. The Society also holds a complete collection of records for the
oldest Quaker congregation in America, encompassing minutes of meeting, disciplines, vital records, and manumissions. Other
collections include the Robinson Papers, a comprehensive collection of manuscripts chronicling the history of a prominent
Newport and Philadelphia family, account books of other Newport businessmen, church records, ship logs, maps, town records,
and personal correspondence of hundreds of Newport families.
Holdings:
Newport Restoration Foundation was founded in 1968 by Doris Duke. The purpose is to save, restore and preserve 18th century
buildings in Newport. As a result, we have in our archives/collection the architectural drawings for the restoration of
75 to 80 houses. We also have about 2,300 photographs which relate to Newport architecture.

The Society's purpose is to serve as a research center for the history of the Pawtuxet Valley. It's archives include books,

copies of The Gleaner, a newspaper published in the Valley from 1876 through 1906.

The Pettaquamscutt Historical Society collects and preserves materials relating to a ten square mile portion of Washington
County known as "the Narragansett Country," lands acquired from native Americans by purchase in 1657 and encompassing all or
parts of the towns of South Kingstown, North Kingstown, Narragansett and Charlestown. The collections include approximately
200 linear feet of manuscripts, consisting of family materials, genealogical files, church, business, and organizational
records, and some South Kingstown town records. The Society serves as a depository for the Wakefield Baptist Church
(1781-1995) and the Kingston Hill Gardeners.

The Preservation Society's holdings focus chiefly on the history and development of the City of Providence and it's historic

Established in 1822 the library is one of the oldest in the country and its collections include personal, business and
institutional records relating to the history of Rhode Island. The Library is the repository for the third largest
genealogical collection in New England. In addition, it contains 12,000 reels of Rhode Island newspapers on microfilm and
the largest collection of pre-1800 Rhode Island imprints in the nation. Manuscript holdings exceed 5000 separate
collections dating from 1642 to the present and include personal papers from Roger Williams, Moses Brown and Charlotte
Perkins Gilman. Ships' logs, vital statistics, custom house records and church, club and business records are included in
this collection. The graphic collection contains photographic, print, broadside and architectural materials. Other
collections include a film and music archive, engravings, etchings, watercolors, drawings, and a large collection of
